The incident, captured on video, shows a heated exchange between a customer, later identified as Tara Martus, and a McDonald’s worker. Martus had reportedly been at the restaurant for an hour, disputing the cancellation of her breakfast order.
Despite the employee’s explanation that breakfast service had ended and a refund was processed, the argument escalated. Frustration boiled over as Martus continued to press the issue, refusing to accept the explanation.
As the employee attempted to disengage and walk away, Martus unleashed a torrent of anger, culminating in a deliberate and disturbing act. She hurled a cup of scalding hot coffee at the worker, shouting obscenities as she did so.
The impact was immediate and painful. The employee cried out in distress, suffering burn injuries to her back and arm. The video reveals the severity of the attack and the employee’s visible pain.
Law enforcement responded swiftly. The Buena Vista Township Police Department issued a public appeal for information, and the response was overwhelming. Within a mere two minutes, over 100 tips flooded in, quickly identifying Martus as the suspect.
Detective Russ Pahssen reported the astonishing speed of the identification, highlighting the public’s willingness to assist in the investigation. Despite being identified, authorities were initially unable to locate Martus.
