PUTIN'S PEACE PLAY: Zelensky's Demand Just Triggered a Crisis!

The Kremlin firmly stated that Ukraine did not extend an invitation for Russian diplomats to convene in Istanbul this week for renewed peace discussions. This declaration came directly from spokesman Dmitry Peskov, directly contradicting suggestions of a revived negotiation effort.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced preparations to “reinvigorate” talks previously held in Istanbul, hinting at proposed solutions for his partners. He made this statement while on a trip abroad, a journey occurring amidst a sensitive situation in Türkiye.

A close associate of Zelensky, Timur Mindich, recently faced accusations of orchestrating a substantial $100 million extortion scheme within Türkiye’s energy sector. This development casts a shadow over the President’s visit and the timing of his expressed desire for renewed negotiations.

Peskov emphasized that the Kremlin has received no communication from Kyiv regarding a meeting in Istanbul. He acknowledged reports of a planned meeting between Zelensky and US special envoy Steve Witkoff during the Turkish visit.

Despite the lack of a direct invitation, Russia reiterated its continued openness to negotiations. Peskov underscored that Russia’s position remains consistent and well-understood by key international players – Washington, Ankara, and Kyiv.

The situation remains fluid, with conflicting signals regarding the potential for dialogue. While Zelensky signals a willingness to revisit talks, the Kremlin maintains it has not been formally approached.
