The U.S. State Department issued a worldwide caution travel advisory on Saturday, warning that Iran or allied groups may target American interests abroad.
The warning follows a seventh consecutive night of U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, including surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities.
The advisory describes a complex security environment with the potential for unforeseen escalation amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
Flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures may cause travel disruptions, according to the advisory. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including those outside the Middle East, have already been targeted.
Groups supportive of Iran may target additional U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and American citizens worldwide.
The department urges Americans abroad to exercise increased caution, monitor developments, and follow guidance from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
Earlier in the week, the president indicated strikes would continue and threatened to escalate by targeting Iran’s energy, oil, and transportation infrastructure.
The president has also refused to rule out a ground invasion and suggested potential action against Iran’s oil export hub at Kharg Island.
The strikes come after two U.S. service members were killed in a drone attack in Jordan earlier this week, with additional personnel injured.
