PHINMA Hospitality to add 350 rooms across Pasay, Bacolod and Davao hotels

A wave of expansion is on the horizon for a major hospitality group, with plans to introduce 350 new rooms across key destinations. These additions will revitalize properties in bustling Pasay City, the vibrant city of Bacolod, and the tropical island of Davao, beginning next year.

The expansion focuses on two distinct brands. Microtel by Wyndham Mall of Asia will gain 100 rooms, catering to the constant flow of business travelers and tourists drawn to the Bay Area. Simultaneously, the Tryp by Wyndham brand is poised for significant growth, with a 100-room hotel planned for Samal Island and a larger 150-room property taking shape in Bacolod City.

The Bacolod hotel will be a centerpiece within Saludad, a sprawling 21-hectare mixed-use development promising a dynamic lifestyle experience. Construction is slated to begin soon, signaling a commitment to the region’s growing potential.

On the shores of Samal Island, the Tryp by Wyndham hotel is rising as a collaborative effort between PHINMA Microtel Hotels and Damosa Land, Inc. This six-story coastal retreat is projected to welcome guests by 2028, offering a unique island escape.

Despite recent headwinds, including temporary disruptions from renovations and fluctuations in tourism, the hospitality division has demonstrated resilience. Sustained demand from leisure travelers, corporate clients, and the lucrative MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector has helped to mitigate the impact.

Beyond hospitality, the group is making significant strides in education, particularly in Indonesia. A recently completed ten-story Horizon University building in West Java has already boosted student capacity by 7,000, bringing the total to nearly 10,000.

Expansion in East Java is nearing completion, with negotiations progressing rapidly. The company anticipates finalizing this venture before the year’s end or in early January, continuing a successful partnership with Triputra Persada Horizon Education Foundation.

PHINMA’s Indonesian journey began in 2019, initially focusing on managing Horizon University Indonesia and Kalbis University in Jakarta. The group is taking a measured approach to further international growth, carefully evaluating potential opportunities in markets like Vietnam and East Java.

While recognizing the potential of these emerging markets, the company prioritizes securing strong local partnerships before committing to expansion. The Philippines remains the primary focus, with ample room for continued organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

The group acknowledges the possibility of inorganic growth opportunities, actively seeking avenues to broaden its reach and impact. Despite recent financial challenges, including a net loss in the first nine months, the long-term vision remains focused on strategic expansion and sustainable growth.

This careful, considered approach reflects a commitment to building lasting value, not just adding rooms or campuses, but fostering thriving communities and empowering future generations.
