TikTok Enhances AI Transparency

TikTok Enhances AI Transparency

A recent global summit in Geneva highlighted the importance of strengthening AI literacy and improving transparency around AI-generated content. As part of this effort, a series of initiatives have been launched globally to enhance protection against AI-generated spam and promote the safe and responsible use of AI. These initiatives reflect a commitment to fostering a safe and informed digital environment.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how people create, learn, and connect online. To help navigate this shift, investments are being made in tools, partnerships, and safeguards that promote confidence and safety in the use of AI. This includes efforts to detect and remove AI-generated spam, which can crowd out original creators and undermine trust. Enhanced detection systems are being tested to identify accounts dedicated to posting AI-generated spam.

More than 86 million fake accounts were removed globally in the first quarter of 2026, demonstrating the ongoing efforts to detect and remove spam at scale. Additionally, over three billion videos have been labelled as AI-generated content, marking a significant milestone in promoting transparency. This progress is being built upon through participation in the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity, which aims to shape industry standards for content authenticity and AI transparency.

Education is critical to promoting the responsible use of AI, and efforts are being made to provide accessible educational resources. A new in-app AI literacy hub is being launched to provide users with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate an increasingly AI-driven world. This hub will offer guides and resources to help people recognize AI-generated content and understand how AI tools are being used. Partnerships with local organizations are also being established to deliver locally relevant AI literacy content.

Investments are being made in AI literacy initiatives, with over $4 million committed to date. These initiatives have generated significant engagement, with over 200 million views demonstrating the growing demand for trusted AI education. The program will continue to expand to empower more communities with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate AI safely and responsibly. By supporting AI literacy and transparency, the goal is to promote a safe and informed digital environment that fosters creativity and innovation.

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, creators are embracing AI as a tool for storytelling, education, and creative expression. AI is being used to develop original visual content, experiment with new production techniques, and unlock new opportunities. By investing in AI tools and features, creators are being supported in their efforts to use AI responsibly and promote positive change. Examples of innovative AI-powered creativity can be seen in the work of creators from Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, who are using AI to educate, entertain, and inspire their communities.
