A legal storm continues to brew for casino technology giant Evolution, as a New Jersey judge has demanded the company hand over all documents connected to the controversial Black Cube report. The order, issued by Judge John C. Porto, compels Evolution to reveal potentially damaging information regarding its operations and interactions with regulators.
The judge’s directive specifically targets “certain discovery necessary” to the Black Cube investigation, meaning Evolution must disclose any communication, internal records, and details of its dealings with gaming authorities. Crucially, the company is also required to name individuals who have engaged with regulators concerning the allegations.
The Black Cube report, originating from an unknown source, triggered a massive $10 billion plunge in Evolution’s value – a staggering 36% wipeout of its market capitalization. The allegations within the report centered on claims that Evolution was operating in jurisdictions without proper licensing, sparking immediate and intense scrutiny.
While Evolution has aggressively fought back in court, simultaneously attempting to unmask the entity that commissioned the damaging report, this latest ruling shifts the spotlight directly back onto the company itself. The court is demanding full compliance by December 5th, according to filings shared by gaming law expert David Wallach.
Initially, the accuracy of the Black Cube report was heavily contested. However, the court’s demand for documentation signals a potential turning point, suggesting the legal system now views the allegations with enough seriousness to warrant a deeper dive. This could represent a significant setback for Evolution and a boost for the credibility of the report.
Evolution has consistently and vehemently denied the claims made in the Black Cube report, branding it “false and defamatory” and accusing its authors of deliberately attempting to sabotage the company’s business. Despite these denials, the legal pressure is mounting, and the coming days will be critical as Evolution prepares to comply with the judge’s order.
