TRUMP UNLEASHES CHRISTMAS CASH: Is YOUR Family Next?

A sweeping initiative is underway to dramatically lower the cost of Christmas trees and firewood for American families this winter. The plan, spearheaded by the Department of the Interior, aims to make holiday traditions accessible while simultaneously addressing critical forest health concerns.

Beginning this winter season and extending through 2026, recreation, firewood, and Christmas tree permit fees on Bureau of Land Management lands will be waived or significantly reduced. The centerpiece of this effort is a remarkable “one dollar, one tree” program, slashing Christmas tree permit costs by nearly 100 percent.

The potential savings are substantial. With the average cost of a six to eight-foot Christmas tree currently around $90 and a cord of wood reaching $300, families could save at least $388 during the holiday season. This isn’t simply about affordability; it’s about preserving cherished traditions.

Beyond cost savings, the plan actively addresses the growing threat of wildfires. New cutting areas are being opened in overstocked woodlands, prioritizing locations near communities, military bases, tribal areas, and rural counties. This strategic approach provides access while simultaneously thinning forests and reducing hazardous fuels.

Household limits are also being increased, allowing families to gather up to 10 cords of firewood and three Christmas trees. In areas with particularly abundant resources, these caps may be lifted entirely, ensuring ample access for those who need it.

The Department of the Interior emphasizes that this initiative isn’t just about immediate relief. It’s a proactive step towards improving forest resilience and mitigating the risk of catastrophic wildfires. A recent study revealed that approximately 117 million acres of federal land are at high risk, largely due to decades of fire suppression and overstocked forests.

By actively thinning these forests, the plan aims to reduce the accumulation of dry fuels that contribute to out-of-control fires. This dual benefit – affordability for families and enhanced forest health – underscores the program’s long-term vision.

The department projects a minimum savings of $9.4 million for American families during the Christmas season, alongside expanded opportunities to responsibly gather firewood and select their own Christmas trees. State offices are preparing to release updated site information and collaborate with local organizations to ensure widespread awareness.

This initiative represents a commitment to easing the financial burden on families during the holidays while simultaneously safeguarding our nation’s forests. It’s a practical solution designed to deliver lasting benefits for generations to come.
