Renowned drummer Mike Browning, a founding member of the iconic death metal group Morbid Angel, has passed away at the age of 62, according to his bandmates.
Browning was remembered as a 'true pioneer' by fans for his contributions to the metal genre. Morbid Angel issued a statement expressing condolences to his family, particularly his daughter, and thanking him for his role in shaping the band's sound.
Morbid Angel was one of the first bands to incorporate guttural vocals, a distinctive feature of the death metal genre. The group formed in 1983 under the names Ice and Heretic, with Browning and Trey Azagthoth at the helm.

However, Browning left the band in 1986 following a disagreement with Azagthoth. Despite releasing only one album with Morbid Angel, Abominations of Desolation, in 1991, Browning went on to have a successful career in the metal scene, working with various bands including Nocturnus, Acheron, and After Death.
Morbid Angel's first studio album, Altars of Madness, released in 1989, is widely regarded as one of the most influential death metal albums in history. Browning's legacy extends beyond his work with Morbid Angel, as he is remembered by fellow musicians as a 'musical legend' and a 'truly nice guy.'
Browning is survived by his daughter Bela, who expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans and described her father as 'an amazing person and an even better father.'
