His Freightliner Cascadia slammed into the rear of a Mazda 3, forcing it under the trailer of a Peterbilt. The impact was catastrophic, instantly igniting the engine compartment of the Mazda.

First responders quickly extinguished the flames, but it was too late for Pearson. The scene was a grim tableau of twisted metal and shattered lives, a stark reminder of the fragility of existence. The force of the collision sent the Freightliner and Mazda careening into the left lane, while the Peterbilt settled onto the right shoulder.

Singh, residing in Elk Grove, California, now faced a vehicular homicide charge. Investigations revealed he had entered the United States illegally just weeks prior, in December 2023, through Lukeville, Arizona, and was subsequently released by border patrol authorities.

Adding another layer of complexity, Singh shares a last name with two other Indian truck drivers – Jashanpreet Singh in California and Harjinder Singh in Florida – each facing charges in separate fatal crashes. While no direct connection has been established, the coincidence is unsettling.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had lodged a detainer with King County law enforcement, requesting Singh be held for potential deportation. However, a judge intervened, deeming Singh not a threat to public safety and authorizing his release from King County Correctional Facility on a $100,000 bond.
