The unthinkable happened on a recent British Airways flight departing from Heathrow: a passenger boarded without a ticket. The astonishing breach of security unfolded before the eyes of fellow travelers, raising serious questions about airport protocols.
Mike LaCorte, CEO of a private investigation firm, and his wife were traveling to Oslo when they witnessed the incident. He described a man, appearing to be in his late twenties or early thirties, casually finding a seat as the aircraft filled.
The man’s appearance was unremarkable – an off-white tracksuit and a small rucksack were his only possessions. However, his behavior quickly drew attention as he repeatedly changed seats, seemingly attempting to blend in as the plane neared capacity.
Reports suggest the man exploited a vulnerability in the security system, allegedly tailgating another passenger through the automatic gates at Terminal Three. This allowed him to bypass the initial boarding pass scan required to join the security queue.
He then reportedly exploited a further weakness at the check-in desk, cleverly posing as part of a family whose passports and boarding passes were being routinely inspected. This deception allowed him to pass through to the gate undetected.
