PEEP SHOW IS RISING FROM THE DEAD!

PEEP SHOW IS RISING FROM THE DEAD!

A decade has passed since the cameras stopped rolling on the painfully hilarious world ofPeep Show, but a flicker of hope has ignited for fans craving a return to the chaotic lives of Mark and Jez.

The groundbreaking sitcom, which brilliantly captured the awkwardness of London life through the eyes of two mismatched flatmates, left an indelible mark on British comedy. David Mitchell and Robert Webb’s performances as Mark Corrigan and Jeremy ‘Jez’ Usbourne remain iconic.

The show, also featuring Olivia Colman, Isy Suttie, Matt King, and Sophie Winkleman, ran for twelve years, concluding in 2015. Now, a reunion of much of the cast for aGreat British Bake OffChristmas special has stirred long-dormant speculation.

Matt King, the actor who brought the unforgettable Super Hans to life, revealed that the writers, Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, once envisioned a reunion. They reportedly told the cast to expect a one-off special “in ten years.”

While a decade has passed, King recently inquired about the possibility and received a cautiously optimistic response. The writers remain interested, but their current workload presents a significant hurdle. King, however, feels a return is inevitable.

Isy Suttie, who played Dobby, playfully suggested a much further-off timeline, imagining Mark and Jez as elderly residents in a care home, still bickering in neighboring flats. It’s a humorous thought, but highlights the challenge of revisiting these characters.

The prospect of a reunion is particularly exciting given the continued creative partnership of Mitchell and Webb. Their new Channel 4 sketch show,Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping, proves their comedic chemistry remains as sharp as ever.

However, not everyone is convinced. Robert Webb previously mused about revisiting the characters as old men, but also expressed concern about the potential for sadness if their lives hadn’t improved.

David Mitchell has echoed this sentiment, stating he wouldn’t want a revival to diminish the legacy of the original series. Any return would need to be a completely separate entity, standing on its own merits.

Jesse Armstrong, the acclaimed writer behindSuccession, offered a more definitive stance in 2023, stating there were “noPeep Showrevivals on the cards.” He emphasized a continued positive working relationship with Sam Bain, but no current ideas for a return.

Despite Armstrong’s comments, Matt King’s recent revelation has reignited the hopes of a devoted fanbase. The possibility, however slim, remains tantalizingly alive.
