Senator Josh Hawley Criticizes Senate Leader Mitch McConnell.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., expressed frustration over the handling of Sen. Mitch McConnell's prolonged absence from the Senate, citing the team's obligation to their constituents. McConnell has been absent for over a month following a fall at his home that left him hospitalized.

The 84-year-old former Senate majority leader's absence, combined with the sudden death of late Sen. Lindsey Graham, has left Senate Republicans down two crucial votes amid a pressing need to wrap up key parts of President Donald Trump's agenda. Speaking with Fox News Digital, Hawley stressed the importance of transparency in the situation.

Hawley emphasized that "at a certain point you do have an obligation to your constituents and the country to tell them what’s going on." He noted that the lack of GOP votes is hindering priorities like the voter integrity measure, the SAVE America Act. Hawley suggested that the team should work to secure the necessary votes for these measures.

Hawley also expressed his own uncertainty about McConnell's condition, stating that he was "totally in the dark" and had no prior knowledge about his health situation. He called for transparency and expressed hope for McConnell's recovery, but also emphasized the need for the team to inform the public about the situation.

Hawley touched on the topic of age limits for serving in office, stating that he is a proponent of term limits. He noted that while some colleagues, such as 92-year-old Sen. Chuck Grassley, are still sharp and active, others may not be. Hawley believes that term limits are necessary to ensure that lawmakers remain committed to serving the public interest.

McConnell is currently completing his seventh term in the Senate, having been first elected in 1984. His prolonged absence has sparked concerns about his health and the impact on his ability to serve. In a recent open letter to Kentuckians, McConnell attributed his fall to mobility issues stemming from his childhood fight with polio and expressed his intention to continue working to finish his term.
