A popular discount retailer was forced to close one of its Scarborough stores due to a rodent issue following an inspection by Toronto Public Health.
The Dollarama location in Scarborough Town Centre has been closed since Friday after “one or more crucial infractions were observed under the Food Premises Regulation that present an immediate health hazard that cannot be corrected during an inspection.”
The store, located in the mall’s lower level near the food court, had five infractions in total — two crucial, two significant and one minor.
One of the crucial infractions, the “food premise maintained in manner permitting health hazard (Rodents) ,” resulted in a summons and health hazard order, pending today, according to Toronto Public Health .
The other crucial infraction was failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration.
The two significant violations were failing to ensure equipment surfaces were cleaned as necessary, and failing to protect against the harbouring of pests.
The inspection also noted the minor infraction, that the food premises’ food-handling room was not maintained with clean floors.
