Tia Kofi, the dazzling drag queen known for her fierce performances on RuPaul’s Drag Race, has been quietly dominating the world of game shows. Over the recent holiday season, she didn’t just sparkle on stage – she conquered two major quiz challenges, taking home victories on bothThe Finish Lineand the notoriously difficultCelebrity Mastermind.
“I’ve always loved a quiz show,” Tia reveals, a competitive glint in her eye. “It’s the one time I truly get competitive. Ask me to sprint? I’ll take a leisurely stroll. But a quiz? I’ll do absolutely everything to win.” This isn’t just a casual hobby; it’s a passion fueled by a lifelong desire to prove herself.
She fondly recalls her days running a popular pub quiz at The Two Brewers, a beloved LGBTQ+ venue in London. “I think I’m probably the least smart one in my family,” she laughs, “and that’s where my competitive edge comes from.” It’s a playful admission that hints at a determined spirit.
HerCelebrity Mastermindtriumph was particularly impressive, achieved with a specialist subject steeped in nostalgia: Christopher Eccleston’s single series as the Ninth Doctor inDoctor Who. “There weren’t many episodes to revise,” she explains, “and I just wanted a bit of a throwback.” A single rewatch on train journeys proved sufficient, and she only missed one question.
But preparation could only take her so far. Facing Clive Myrie, the formidable host, under the intense studio lights was a different experience altogether. “It’s really awkward,” Tia admits. “They play the music, the lights come up, and it’s completely silent. You can hear your shoes clicking as you walk to the chair.”
The atmosphere, she describes, is intensely focused, almost exam-like. “Clive is the invigilator, and he’s not offering any help. You’re on your own. It felt like I was 15, taking a GCSE.” Despite the pressure, she rose to the occasion, showcasing her knowledge and composure.
However, Tia insists thatThe Finish Line, a fast-paced contest where contestants race on podiums powered by correct answers, was even more stressful. The stakes were high: £5,000 for a chosen charity.
The questions, sometimes deceptively simple – “Name this animal,” accompanied by a picture of a squirrel – demanded quick thinking. “OnMastermind, I can brush off not knowing the fifth UN Secretary-General. But if I can’t identify a cup in a picture? That’s embarrassing!” she jokes, referencing a moment when even quiz expert Rachel Riley stumbled.
The airing of herFinish Lineappearance unfortunately attracted a wave of negativity from those angered by her presence in drag. Tia responded swiftly and powerfully on social media, highlighting that she had won the prize money for Rainbow Migration, a charity supporting LGBTQ+ migrants.
Undeterred, Tia is already looking ahead, planning to continue her winning streak in 2026 and using her platform to support LGBTQ+ causes. “I love doing these quiz shows because of the opportunity to raise awareness and money for charities I work with,” she explains.
She’s already successfully raised funds for Not A Phase, a trans charity, and Rainbow Migration. “Basically, this festive season was about going on quiz shows and annoying Reform voters – which I could already do just by being brown and in drag.”
WithDrag Race Versus The World,The Finish Line, andCelebrity Mastermindalready under her belt, what’s next? Tia has her sights set onCelebrity Apprentice, dreaming of facing Lord Sugar in full drag – pencil skirt, high ponytail, and all.
But her ambitions extend beyond simply winning another game show. Tia envisions a new quiz show, hosted by none other than herself. “BBC Three needs a quiz show – and who better to host it than me,Celebrity Mastermind’sTia Kofi? Who needs Alexander Armstrong when you’ve got a six-foot-five man in a wig?”
