Three foreign students arrested over assault in Kicukiro

Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Monday, October 20, arrested three foreign students from the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK) for allegedly assaulting and injuring two motorcyclists in Gatenga Sector, Kicukiro District.

The incident occurred at around 3pm when the three male students reportedly beat two motorcyclists, identified as André Ndungutse, 26, and Samuel Habumugisha, 22, using sticks, ACP Boniface Rutikanga, the RNP spokesperson told The New Times.

“They also damaged the motorcycles belonging to the victims.”

According to the police, the suspects are currently detained at Kicukiro Police Station as investigations continue.

“We are working with relevant institutions to ensure that legal measures are taken. We remind the public to always report such incidents promptly, as such acts will not be tolerated,” Rutikanga added.

The suspects could face prosecution in courts or be deported to their home countries, or both, depending on the outcome of investigations, Rutikanga said.
