Every time you encounter a mesmerizing AI-generated video on Instagram, or receive a surprisingly insightful response from ChatGPT, a hidden world of immense computational power is at work. This isn't just about clever algorithms and well-crafted prompts; it's about the sheer scale of processing required to fuel the AI revolution, a demand that’s growing exponentially.

AMD recently unveiled “Helios,” a groundbreaking AI rack designed to meet this surging need. Presented with dramatic flair, Helios isn’t simply an upgrade – it’s a behemoth, weighing nearly 7,000 pounds and poised to become the engine behind many of the AI experiences rapidly becoming commonplace. It represents a fundamental shift in how AI is powered.

At the heart of Helios lies a carefully orchestrated combination of AMD’s latest technologies. Four key components work in concert: the Instinct MI455X GPU, the EPYC "Veince" CPU, the Pensando "Vulcano" 800 AI NIC, and the Pensando "Salina" 400 DPU. This synergy unlocks staggering performance capabilities, including 2.9 exaflops of AI compute and 31 TB of HBM4 memory.

The sheer numbers are almost incomprehensible. Helios boasts 4,600 “Zen 6” CPU cores and 18,000 GPU compute units, all built on cutting-edge 2nm and 3nm architecture. This isn’t incremental improvement; it’s a leap forward in AI infrastructure, designed to handle the demands of a world increasingly reliant on artificial intelligence.

The need for this power is undeniable. In 2022, the world utilized one ZettaFlop of computing power for AI. Projections estimate a staggering 100 ZettaFlops will be required by 2025.
