A Game of Thrones Prequel is COMING – and the Internet DEMANDS Answers!

The long wait for a return to Westeros is almost over. While a new season ofHouse of the Dragonisn’t expected until late 2026, fans of George R.R. Martin’s world will soon have a new story to immerse themselves in:A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

This upcoming series delves into a previously untold era, a century before the events that gripped audiences inGame of Thrones. It’s based on Martin’s belovedTales of Dunk and Egg, a collection of novellas brimming with adventure and political intrigue.

At the heart of the story are Ser Duncan the Tall, a towering and honorable knight known as “Dunk” (played by Peter Claffey), and his young, enigmatic squire, “Egg” (Dexter Sol Ansell). Egg is determined to prove his worth in a realm still recovering from the scars of a brutal civil war, a time when the Targaryen dynasty struggles to maintain its grip on power.

But Egg harbors a secret, carefully concealed beneath a shaved head. His true identity is a carefully guarded mystery, one that will slowly unravel as the series progresses, revealing a connection to the very heart of Westeros’s power struggles.

The realm remains fractured, haunted by lingering loyalties to a rival claimant, Daemon Blackfyre. Plots are brewing in the shadows, threatening to ignite another rebellion against King Daeron II and plunge Westeros back into chaos.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdomswill chronicle Dunk and Egg’s journeys as they navigate a landscape rife with conflict, facing battles and moral dilemmas against a backdrop of simmering dissent. Their adventures promise a fresh perspective on the familiar world of Westeros.

The first season will consist of six episodes, meticulously filmed on location in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This promises a visually stunning and authentic portrayal of the era.

The series will also explore complex characters and relationships, including a confirmed LGBTQ+ storyline. Daemon II Blackfyre, the son of the rebellious Daemon Blackfyre, is canonically gay, a detail established by George R.R. Martin himself.

Martin described the younger Daemon as a captivating figure, initially appearing as “Ser John the Fiddler,” a handsome and mysterious young man. His carefully dyed hair conceals a shocking truth: the silver-gold of Targaryen lineage. Their interactions hint at a mutual attraction, adding another layer of depth to the narrative.

The showrunners have demonstrated a willingness to expand upon existing characters and storylines, as seen inHouse of the Dragon, where Rhaenyra Targaryen’s sexuality was reimagined for the screen. This suggests a strong possibility of further LGBTQ+ representation withinA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Mark your calendars:A Knight of the Seven Kingdomsis set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on January 18, 2026. Prepare to be transported back to a Westeros on the brink, where honor, loyalty, and ambition collide.
