The fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by ICE officers during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas, has left his family in shock and mourning. Araujo, a construction worker, was driving a car on Tuesday evening when ICE officers attempted to stop him.
Araujo is alleged to be undocumented, and did not comply with the officers' commands. ICE claimed that Araujo attempted to "weaponise his vehicle" and run over an officer, a reason cited for the fatal shooting of Renee Good earlier this year. However, Araujo's family disputes this account.
His son, Ronaldo Salgado, spoke out against the shooting, saying, "He did not deserve to die. He did not deserve to be reduced to a headline of 'Mexican man shot and killed by ICE." Salgado remembered his father as a dedicated worker who had spent his life pursuing the American dream, teaching his children the value of hard work and education.

The incident has sparked an investigation by Homeland Security, which has been ramping up operations under the current administration, targeting major cities as part of mass deportations. Houston, the biggest city in Texas, is home to around 6.5 million people, with a diverse population of various ethnicities.
ICE has been at the center of controversy in recent months, with protests and backlash against the agency's actions. The fatal shooting of Renee Good in January this year drew widespread attention, and the agency's handling of the incident has been widely criticized.
An investigation into the shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo is ongoing, with many in the community awaiting answers and calling for transparency.
