On March 28th of last year, Carissa’s life changed forever. A hit-and-run driver, allegedly an individual who had entered the U.S. during the current administration, collided with her vehicle and then fled the scene, leaving her critically injured.

The impact left Carissa wheelchair-bound, unable to speak, and with severely limited consciousness. She can no longer smile, laugh, or even feed herself, requiring constant, full-time care. Her world has been reduced to a silent, immobile existence.

Responding directly to Berg’s post, Carissa’s mother issued a heartbreaking plea. She pointedly asked if the candidate’s team might extend their assistance to her daughter, who is now unable to even shop for groceries, let alone prepare a meal.

Her message was stark and direct: a request not just for food, but for the basic care her daughter now desperately needs, delivered directly through a feeding tube. It was a raw expression of pain and a challenge to the candidate’s performative empathy.
