A chilling discovery at Hamilton International Airport has led to the arrest of a 57-year-old man from Kingston. Border Services officers intercepted a package originating from China containing deeply disturbing material – a life-sized doll categorized as child sexual abuse material.
The package, recovered in late January, immediately triggered a joint investigation with Kingston Police’s Internet Child Exploitation unit. The contents were so egregious, they demanded immediate and focused attention from law enforcement.
Police located the suspect near Barnsley Crescent and Acadian Drive in Kingston, taking him into custody and holding him for a bail hearing. The charges are severe: possession of child sexual abuse material, importing such material, and violating the terms of a long-term supervision order stemming from prior child sexual offence convictions.
Investigators emphasize that this is an ongoing investigation, and further charges are possible. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding suspicious cross-border activity to come forward.
Meanwhile, a separate, large-scale operation dubbed “Operation Meridian” has disrupted a significant drug smuggling ring across Southern Ontario. This 60-day targeted effort focused on intercepting illicit narcotics attempting to enter the country through commercial channels.
The operation resulted in the arrest of another Kingston man, linked to the alleged movement of millions of dollars worth of cocaine and methamphetamine. Authorities successfully dismantled a network designed to flood communities with dangerous drugs.
“We have had remarkable success in intercepting smuggling efforts,” stated a regional director general with the Canada Border Services Agency. “This work is critical to keeping Canadians safe and preventing harmful drugs from reaching our streets.”
The success of Operation Meridian underscores the power of collaboration between border services and law enforcement partners in combating criminal activity and protecting communities throughout Southern Ontario.
