A terrifying ordeal unfolded in Greenville, North Carolina, leaving one person hospitalized after a brutal home invasion. Authorities have now made a third arrest in connection with the February 11th incident, a case marked by violence and alleged sexual assault.
John Carlos Calderon, 22, of Greenville, was taken into custody Monday, joining Jonathan David Garcia-Lario, 20, and Zaid Mayen, 21, as suspects in the harrowing attack. The victim endured a night of terror, allegedly facing kidnapping, burglary, and a horrific sexual assault.
All three individuals now face identical, severe felony charges: forcible sexual assault, kidnapping, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon causing grievous harm. The gravity of these accusations underscores the brutality of the alleged crimes.
The investigation quickly focused on immigration status, with authorities confirming that Garcia-Lario and Mayen are not legal residents. Federal immigration authorities have placed detainers on both men, ensuring they remain in custody pending potential deportation proceedings.
Evidence gathered in Chapel Hill, where Mayen resides, approximately two hours from the crime scene, provided crucial leads in the case. This discovery broadened the scope of the investigation and linked the suspects to a location outside of Greenville.
The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the collaborative effort that led to these arrests, acknowledging the vital assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, Chapel Hill Police Department, and specialized forensic units. Such cooperation was essential in swiftly apprehending the suspects.
While authorities have confirmed the victim received medical attention via ambulance, details regarding the extent of their injuries remain undisclosed. The focus remains on supporting the victim and ensuring justice is served in this deeply disturbing case.
Calderon is currently held without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center, alongside Garcia-Lario. Mayen is similarly being held without bond at the Orange County Detention Center, awaiting further legal proceedings.
