Marriott offers two co‑branded credit cards that target different segments of its loyalty program. The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card carries a modest annual fee, while the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card commands a premium price. Choosing between them depends on how frequently a traveler stays at Marriott properties and the value placed on ancillary benefits.
The Boundless card charges $95 per year and provides a welcome bonus of 125,000 points plus a free night award after $3,000 in spend within the first three months. An additional statement credit of up to $100 is available for airline purchases after $500 of qualifying spend. The bonus structure is designed for cardholders who prefer a lower spending threshold.
The Brilliant card carries a $650 annual fee and offers up to 150,000 bonus points when $8,000 is spent over the first six months. The welcome package includes a free night award with a higher point value. The higher fee reflects the card’s extensive premium benefits.

Both cards award six points per dollar on purchases at participating Marriott hotels. Outside of lodging, the earning categories diverge, influencing overall point accumulation for everyday spending.
The Boundless card grants three points per dollar on gas, grocery, and dining purchases, capped at $6,000 of combined spend each year. All other purchases earn two points per dollar. This structure benefits cardholders who concentrate spending in those categories.
The Brilliant card also provides three points per dollar on dining and on airline tickets booked directly with carriers, without a spending cap. Remaining purchases earn two points per dollar, offering a broader reward for travel‑related expenses.

Each card includes an annual free night award. The Boundless award is worth up to 35,000 points, while the Brilliant award can be redeemed for up to 85,000 points. Both awards may be supplemented with up to 25,000 additional points from the holder’s account.
Elite status differs between the cards. Boundless members receive complimentary Silver Elite status and can achieve Gold Elite after $35,000 in annual spend. Brilliant members enjoy automatic Platinum Elite status, the highest tier within the program.
Additional benefits for Boundless include 15 elite night credits per year, a credit for premium Wi‑Fi at Marriott properties, no foreign transaction fees, and basic travel protections such as baggage delay and trip interruption coverage.

Brilliant cardholders receive 25 elite night credits annually, up to $25 per month in dining statement credits, an annual luxury property credit of up to $100 for stays at select high‑end hotels, and a credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck every four years. The card also provides a Priority Pass Select membership for airport lounge access and expanded travel and purchase protections.
Eligibility rules affect both products. The Boundless card is subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule, which rejects applicants with five or more recent credit cards. The Brilliant card limits the welcome bonus to a single use per lifetime, and both cards require compliance with Marriott’s own eligibility criteria.
Points earned on either card are deposited into the Marriott Bonvoy account and can be redeemed for hotel stays, experiences, merchandise, or transferred to over 35 airline partners. Transfers typically occur at a 3:1 ratio, with occasional bonus miles for larger transfers.

For travelers who stay at Marriott hotels only occasionally, the Boundless card offers a lower‑cost entry point with solid rewards. Frequent Marriott guests who can leverage premium perks such as lounge access, higher‑value free nights, and elite status may find the Brilliant card’s higher fee justified.
Ultimately, the decision rests on travel frequency, spending patterns, and willingness to absorb the annual fee. Cardholders should align the card’s cost and benefits with their personal hospitality usage to maximize value.
