The long-awaited trailer for Tom Cruise's latest movie, Digger, has finally been released, showcasing the action star's dramatic transformation into eccentric billionaire Digger Rockwell.
Collaborating with acclaimed director Alejandro G Iñárritu, Digger has been positioned as the film that will finally secure an acting Oscar for Cruise, who looks worlds apart from his usual self in the trailer.
The Mission: Impossible star, 64, has undergone a significant physical makeover, sporting a pot belly, messy grey hair, and a broad Southern US drawl in his role.
As fans enthusiastically noted, it's the biggest physical transformation the actor has undergone since his fat suit and bald cap in Tropic Thunder's Les Grossman in 2008, with many comparing the movie to Dr Strangelove.
The trailer introduces Digger as 'the most powerful man in the world,' who must 'race to prove he is humanity's savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.'
The film's plot thickens as Digger dismisses a potentially catastrophic five-foot crack on a glacier in Greenland, asking one of his employees: 'What, do you want me to shut down a billion-dollar platform over something that's 10 times the size of my dk?'
The trailer also features Cruise being reprimanded by the president's advisor Ganesh, who shouts: 'You knew long before the rest of us. That is why it is your problem!'
Digger is set to release in cinemas on October 2, 2026, with Cruise reiterating that the film is unlike anything he's made before, stating: 'I have never had something that could challenge me in this way and neither has Alejandro when we went in, ever.'
The cast for Digger includes Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophie Wilde, with the film written by Iñárritu alongside Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman.
