Manchester United face a pivotal decision regarding one of their most creative attackers as AC Milan prepare to test the club’s resolve to retain him.
Michael Carrick continues to shape his squad for the new season. The winger’s pace, close control, and ability to operate across multiple attacking positions make him a valuable component of the project.
Milan’s interest is understandable given their new manager’s prior familiarity with the player from his time at Old Trafford. Brighton and Newcastle are also monitoring the situation, but United hold a strong position and would have little reason to approve a sale unless the player forces a move or a substantial offer arrives.

Milan have identified Amad Diallo as a priority attacking target. Ruben Amorim seeks a young, inventive winger and believes the Ivory Coast international would suit the dynamic system planned at San Siro.
Amorim’s appointment on 16 June underscored his reputation for developing young players and implementing a clear tactical identity. His previous relationship with Amad could provide Milan an edge in any negotiations.
Milan are preparing a financially measured proposal rather than a blockbuster bid, which may prove insufficient to persuade United. The club have no pressing financial need to sell at a discount.

Amad signed a new contract in January 2025, binding him to Old Trafford until June 2030. That agreement enables Carrick and United’s hierarchy to reject approaches without risk of losing him cheaply.
United should retain Amad unless he explicitly requests a departure. His creativity, versatility, and capacity to carry the ball through tight spaces offer Carrick a distinct profile from other forwards.
A reunion with Amorim and a return to Italy may appeal if Milan guarantee a central role. However, a move to San Siro would not automatically ensure greater success or minutes.

United must clarify their stance early. Amad remains a long-term asset, and Milan would need to table an exceptional offer before Carrick considers permitting his exit.
