An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Missouri responded to a severe collision outside Festus on July 11.
The officer, Curtland Sawyer, was driving home when he observed a vehicle collide with a tractor‑trailer's side and immediately rushed to the scene.
He administered emergency care, applying a tourniquet to the driver’s arm to halt life‑threatening bleeding and providing other lifesaving measures.
Sawyer stayed with the injured motorist until emergency medical technicians arrived and took over treatment.
The incident underscores how law enforcement personnel often act as first responders in critical emergencies.
