A semitruck collided with slow‑moving traffic on Interstate 10 in San Bernardino County, resulting in three fatalities and multiple injuries.
The driver was identified as Singh, an illegal immigrant from India who entered the United States in 2022 and was released pending an immigration hearing.
Singh obtained a California commercial driver’s license in June 2025.
Federal officials had previously warned California about compliance issues with commercial driver’s licenses, directing a pause on issuing new licenses to non‑citizens and a review of existing licenses.
Under an emergency Department of Transportation policy, Singh should have been disqualified, though California officials cited federally approved employment authorization documents as the basis for his eligibility.
On October 15, after turning 21, a restriction on Singh’s commercial driver’s license was removed, and six days later he was operating the truck involved in the fatal crash.
Dashcam footage captured the moment of impact, showing the driver did not apply the brakes before striking traffic.
Toxicology testing confirmed Singh was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
The incident underscores concerns about licensing oversight and the enforcement of immigration‑related restrictions.
