A 13-year-old boy died after a driver struck him and two other boys in a collision. The two other boys were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver’s damaged car was found abandoned in a nearby street shortly after the incident. Police located and arrested the driver soon afterward.
At Northampton Crown Court, the driver pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while over the legal alcohol and drug limits. The groundworker also admitted two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving related to the other two boys.

The family of the deceased boy described him as a fun, bright, handsome, athletic, and well-liked child. They said he cherished time with friends and family and that his death has left a permanent void in their lives.
A detective sergeant from the serious collision investigation unit said the boy was only 13 with his whole life ahead of him. The two surviving boys will live with the physical and emotional impact of the crash for the rest of their lives.
Investigators stated that the families continue to receive support from trained officers and asked for privacy. The driver is scheduled to be sentenced on September 25.

A passenger denied perverting the course of justice at an earlier hearing. The case remains before the court pending further proceedings.
