Cyclist assaulted by e-scooter riders during charity ride

A naked cyclist was attacked by men riding an e-scooter during a charity ride, prompting a police investigation.

The incident occurred during the Chelmsford World Naked Bike Ride, a protest against the destructive elements of car culture.

The victim, identified as Mo, was kicked in the thigh as the men drove past him and other naked cyclists before turning back.

Footage of the attack showed Mo narrowly avoiding being struck by a bus during the assault.

He sustained red bruises on both the lower and upper parts of his thigh, though the wide distribution of impact absorbed the force and prevented severe injury.

Mo said he would not allow the violence to stop him from participating in the protest.

Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

In a separate case last August, another nude cyclist was attacked during a ride organised by the same environmental group.

Robert Brown, 59, was cycling through Colchester, Essex, during a Four Seasons World Naked Bike Ride when he was punched by motorcyclist Lee Turnage, 46.

Brown struck the pavement after the blow, and Turnage was later handed a suspended prison sentence for causing actual bodily harm.

Naturism, also known as nudism, is a movement promoting non-sexual nudity to help people reconnect with nature.

A 2022 survey commissioned by a national naturism organisation found roughly 6.7 million people in Britain take part in the clothing-optional lifestyle.

The College of Policing states naturists have a right to freedom of expression under the law.

Public nudity is only considered a crime if a naturist commits a sexual offence or engages in behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
