A 65‑year‑old man was injured after being thrown by a bison at Yellowstone’s Bridge Bay Campground on Friday evening. The incident was captured on video by a photographer who was filming nearby visitors.
The photographer, Mike MacLeod, had begun shooting a group of children when a bison charged the kids. After the animal passed the children, MacLeod continued filming and later recorded the attack on the man.
The bison, described as large and agitated, struck the man with its horn, lifting him about eight feet and tossing him onto the ground. Emergency personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital where he received treatment for significant injuries.

Officials from the National Park Service confirmed the incident and noted that the man and his grandson had been observing recommended safety distances from wildlife. They reiterated the importance of staying at least 100 yards from bears, wolves, and cougars, and 25 yards from bison and elk.
Witnesses attempted to help the victim, with one caller dialing emergency services and another alerting park security. The photographer later described the event as a reminder that even well‑behaved visitors can become targets of unpredictable wildlife.
The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of large mammals in Yellowstone and underscores the need for vigilance among park visitors.
