A Canadian woman has been charged following an alleged attack on a teenager in New Jersey over a political display. The incident occurred on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk on July 3, during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the woman striking the teen twice with an open hand, according to law enforcement.
Authorities identified the suspect as Kaitlyn E. Tracey, 33, who allegedly recorded the group of teens before confronting them. Police stated the victim was wearing patriotic-colored sweatpants featuring the names of a former U.S. president and an immigration enforcement agency, which Tracey reportedly found objectionable. The suspect fled the scene after the alleged assault.
Tracey faces multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, harassment, and obstruction. She was arrested days later following an investigation into the case. The charges stem from the confrontation, which occurred as the holiday weekend began.
In a separate development, a man claiming to be Tracey’s husband shared a public statement expressing distress over her legal situation. He disclosed that she was detained by immigration officials and transferred to a facility in North New Jersey. Records from a government agency confirm her current status as a detainee at the Delaney Hall facility.
Tracey, who arrived in the United States in 2024 with a valid passport, has not publicly commented on the allegations. Her attorney declined to provide additional information, citing ongoing legal proceedings. The case highlights tensions surrounding public interactions and political expression, with authorities emphasizing the need for accountability under local laws.
