Durham police are searching for a male suspect following a violent sexual assault in Whitby on Monday night. The incident occurred at Iroquois Beach Park, where an adult female victim was allegedly assaulted by an unknown male.
The victim was walking along a sand path in the park when the suspect allegedly dragged her off the path into a tree line, where he made threats and sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to flee toward the street and flag down a motorist to contact police.
The suspect is described as a Black male with shoulder-length cornrow-style hair and wearing all black clothing. Despite an extensive search conducted by officers, with support from the K9 Unit and Drone Unit, the suspect was not located.

Police are urging anyone with cell phone, dashcam, or surveillance footage to come forward. They are also asking for information about the incident and are offering a cash reward for anonymous tips.
Police will be increasing patrols in and around Iroquois Beach Park and the Waterfront Trail as the investigation continues. Residents and others using the trail system are advised to take precautions, such as walking in pairs and having a cell phone readily available.
Authorities are advising people to let others know where they are, what time they're leaving home, and what time they plan to return. They are also urging people to be aware of their surroundings and to contact 9-1-1 if they feel they're in a potentially life-threatening or suspicious situation.
