Police in Nassau County seized six illegal electronic gambling machines during a quality‑of‑life enforcement sweep in Roosevelt on July 6.
Investigators from the department’s Strategic Response Team first entered Good Food & Shake at 90 Nassau Road, where they discovered two unauthorized gambling devices and recovered $1,276 in cash.
The owner, Erick Hernandez Martinez, 33, of Freeport, was charged with possession of gambling devices, operating without a valid state liquor license, unlicensed public assembly and disorderly premise. He received an appearance ticket and is slated to appear in First District Court on July 20.
The operation continued at Stop & Go Food Market, 135 Babylon Turnpike, where officers found four concealed gambling machines and seized an additional $390.
Rafael Rodriguez, 63, of Uniondale, faced charges of possession of gambling devices, unlicensed public assembly and disorderly premise. Like the first defendant, he was issued an appearance ticket and will also appear in court on July 20.
Overall, the inspections recovered more than $1,600 in cash linked to the illegal machines.
Authorities described the sweep as part of an ongoing initiative to enforce state and local regulations and address quality‑of‑life concerns in the Roosevelt community.
