Boeing 737 tragedy deepens as families discover victim names

K2 Airways cargo aircraft vanished off Pakistan's coast on Tuesday evening. The Boeing 737‑400 freighter was en route to Karachi from Sharjah when it lost contact at 9:21 p.m. The disappearance prompted an immediate search effort.

The crew, totaling five members, included Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris, First Officer Faisal Jatoi, flight engineers Muhammad Hamid and Muhammad Arif Siddiqui, and aircraft loader Muhammad Taufiq Khan. All remain missing.

Wreckage was recovered on Wednesday about 53 miles south of Ormara, indicating a rapid descent before the aircraft fell off radar. The debris field confirmed that the plane had crashed in the Arabian Sea.

Military and civilian aircraft and ships were deployed to the search zone. A naval frigate and air force planes were used to locate wreckage and continue the search for the crew.

It is believed a navigation system malfunction may have occurred shortly before contact was lost, roughly 155 nautical miles west of Karachi. Radar data showed the aircraft descended quickly before disappearing from the radar screen.

The freighter was approximately 27 years old and represented the sole aircraft in K2 Airways' fleet. The airline was founded in 2018.

The airline has expressed deep concern for the missing crew and called for continued search efforts. The family of co‑pilot Faisal Jatoi maintained regular contact with his father‑in‑law while he was in Sharjah.

Jatoi reportedly called his wife just before departure. His father‑in‑law said the family hoped for a miracle and remained in contact.

Search operations continue into Thursday, with no confirmed location of the crew. Military units remain on alert in the region.
