The Voice Issues Apology Over Upsetting Email Sent to Contestant

A television singing competition has issued an apology after requesting free products from a bakery without offering payment.

The production team contacted Get Baked UK, a business owned by Rich Myers, asking the company to supply goods for green rooms and talent dressing rooms.

The email stated that no monetary or other compensation could be provided, but highlighted the "exposure" to presenters, coaches, and contestants described as "highly influential."

Myers initially believed the request was a joke before confirming it was genuine, and publicly criticised the approach as disgraceful.

He noted that a company with substantial profits should not be seeking free items from independent businesses.

His response, directed at the producer's superiors, went viral and drew support from other food businesses and viewers.

At least two other brands reported receiving similar unpaid requests, with one stating it had accepted such an offer in 2020.

The broadcaster and production company later sent a follow-up message apologising for the upset caused and acknowledging the request was not in line with standard practices.

The production company confirmed immediate steps had been taken to ensure such requests are never made again.

Myers accepted the apology, stating he does not hold grudges, but warned against any repeat of the behaviour.

He expressed hope that the incident would lead to an end to unpaid requests directed at independent businesses.
