A prominent figure from Donald Trump’s recent presidential campaign is now setting her sights on a crucial congressional seat, aiming to break a decade-long losing streak for the Republican party in New Hampshire.
Elizabeth Girard, who served as a New Hampshire co-chair for Trump’s 2024 bid, officially launched her campaign for the state’s 1st Congressional District on Monday. This district, stretching from bustling cities to the majestic White Mountains, represents a key battleground in the fight for control of the House.
The 1st District was once fiercely contested, but Democrats have held it for five consecutive elections, with Representative Chris Pappas securing four wins. However, with Pappas now vying for a Senate seat, Republicans see a genuine opportunity to reclaim this vital territory.
Girard’s platform centers on delivering tangible results for New Hampshire, promising to collaborate with President Trump and fellow lawmakers. She envisions a future where the state’s prosperity is secured for generations to come.
Her core priorities include tackling the rising cost of living and healthcare, fostering an environment where small businesses and innovation can flourish, and ensuring dedicated care for veterans and seniors. These are the individuals who built and defended the nation, she emphasizes.
The Republican primary is already shaping up to be competitive, with contenders including auto dealer Anthony DiLorenzo, former GOP vice chair Hollie Noveletsky, state Representative Brian Cole, and Melissa Bailey. Each candidate brings a unique perspective to the table.
On the Democratic side, a crowded field of seven candidates is emerging, including Stefany Shaheen – daughter of Senator Jeanne Shaheen – and Maura Sullivan, a Marine veteran with a background in the Defense Department. The race promises a dynamic clash of ideologies and experience.
Girard’s path to candidacy wasn’t without its bold moves. A 2016 University of New Hampshire graduate, she previously led the New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women. She notably broke with tradition by endorsing Trump during the 2023 primary, a decision that led to her resignation from the organization and her subsequent appointment as a state co-chair for his campaign.
This decision underscored her unwavering commitment to Trump’s vision and signaled a willingness to challenge established norms. Now, she aims to translate that dedication into a victory for the Republican party in a district that desperately needs a change in representation.
