A suspect sought in connection with a brazen attack on the office of U.S. Attorney Alina Habba is now in custody, authorities announced Saturday. The arrest culminates a swift investigation led by the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and Homeland Security Investigations, bringing a measure of relief after a disturbing incident.
The FBI identified the suspect as Keith Michael Lisa, 51, who allegedly targeted Habba’s office within the Peter W. Rodino Federal Building in Newark, New Jersey on November 12th. Initial reports detailed a deliberate attempt to gain entry, followed by an act of vandalism once inside.
Lisa reportedly attempted to enter the building carrying a bat. After being initially denied access, he discarded the weapon before re-entering and proceeding directly to Habba’s office, where he damaged government property. A federal warrant was swiftly issued, charging him with possession of a dangerous weapon and depredation of federal property.
The incident wasn’t isolated. Authorities revealed a prior attempt to confront Habba directly on Wednesday night, preceding the office vandalism. Thankfully, Habba was unharmed, but the events sparked immediate condemnation and a firm pledge to protect federal officers.
The escalating threats against law enforcement officials across the nation were acknowledged, with concerns raised about a disturbing trend of radical attacks. Officials emphasized that such acts of intimidation and violence would not be tolerated.
Described as approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing between 200 and 230 pounds, Lisa has known connections to both New York City and Mahwah, New Jersey. Authorities had warned the public to consider him dangerous while he remained at large.
Alina Habba holds a significant role within the Justice Department, serving as Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney to the Attorney General. She oversees all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation in New Jersey, managing a substantial team of prosecutors and support staff.
Following the arrest, Habba expressed unwavering resolve, stating she would not be intimidated by extremist actions while fulfilling her duties. The case now moves to the judicial process, with authorities confident that justice will be served.
