My perspective on personal hygiene fundamentally shifted during a trip to Japan in 2019. I returned home a convert, immediately installing a simple bidet attachment. It was a good start, but I always envisioned a more complete transformation of my bathroom experience.
That vision became reality recently with the arrival of a smart toilet. It wasn’t a planned purchase, but a compelling Black Friday offer made the decision easy. The upgrade has been nothing short of remarkable, exceeding even my highest expectations.
The initial encounter was during Thanksgiving at my parents’ house. They’d installed it in the guest bathroom, eager for my brothers and me to experience the future of bathroom technology. As I entered, the lid silently rose, revealing a gently heated seat – a welcoming gesture I hadn’t known I needed.
Years of bidet use hadn’t prepared me for the sophistication of this system. A dedicated remote, conveniently wall-mounted, controlled every aspect of the experience. From precise water temperature and stream direction to a surprisingly effective and gentle warm air dryer, the level of customization was astonishing.
Beyond the core functions, the toilet handles many tasks automatically. The lid opens and closes on approach, flushing is seamless, and even cleaning is largely automated. Considering that quality bidets often start around $300, the value was undeniable.
Controlling the water temperature is a game-changer, particularly during colder months when the incoming water is frigid. The comfort and cleanliness are significantly enhanced. It’s a small detail that makes a substantial difference in daily life.
Maintenance is surprisingly straightforward. The sleek, skirted design eliminates the awkward crevices where dirt typically accumulates. The self-cleaning function after each flush further simplifies upkeep, contributing to a consistently hygienic environment.
A nearby electrical outlet is essential to unlock the full potential of the smart features. While tankless models offer quieter operation, water and energy savings, and a more modern aesthetic, they require more complex installation. I opted for the standard tank model, and the flush is quiet enough to satisfy my needs.
