The night exploded with sound. Cletis Reed, a Southern Nevada homeowner, described it as a freight train barreling through his peaceful evening. Moments before, he’d been about to relax in his hot tub, a few feet from the wall that would soon be obliterated.
Surveillance footage captured the terrifying sequence. A car, traveling at a dangerous speed, veered off course and slammed directly into a block wall. The impact launched the vehicle airborne, a metal projectile hurtling towards Reed’s backyard.
The car didn’t stop there. It continued its chaotic flight, crashing onto the roof of a pool house before finally ejecting the female driver. She landed with a splash, directly into the shallow end of his swimming pool.
Reed rushed outside to a scene of utter devastation. His patio was in ruins, debris scattered everywhere, and a woman was floating in his pool. The force of the crash was immense, causing an estimated $300,000 in damage.
“I mean everything was just blown up,” Reed recounted, still shaken by the near miss. He realized with chilling clarity that had he been in the hot tub, the outcome would have been tragically different. “I would have been dead.”
Dramatic video shows the driver, miraculously alive, moaning after the impact. She struggled to stay afloat, flipping between face up and face down in the water. Despite her condition, she remained conscious.
Reed quickly pulled the woman from the pool. Remarkably, she was able to stand and speak with police just fifteen minutes later, though still clearly in distress. Authorities suspect impairment played a role in the reckless crash.
The incident remains under investigation, and it is currently unknown if charges have been filed against the driver. But for Cletis Reed, the night serves as a stark reminder of how quickly life can change, and how close he came to a devastating fate.
