A Minneapolis daycare center became the center of a bizarre claim this week. The manager of Nokomis Day Care Center reported a break-in, alleging that crucial documents had been stolen.
Nasrulah Mohamed, the daycare’s manager, described a scene of forced entry, with damage to a back kitchen and office doors. He stated that enrollment records for children and employee documentation were among the items taken, along with ripped checkbooks.
Mohamed directly attributed the incident to recent investigative reporting, specifically naming a journalist whose work had highlighted alleged fraud within the Somali community. He suggested the break-in was a direct consequence of this exposure.
The timing and nature of the theft have raised immediate skepticism. The stolen documents were described as “important,” leading many to believe the break-in was deliberately targeted to conceal potentially incriminating evidence.
Adding to the doubts, images surfaced showing the damage to the daycare’s walls. A closer look revealed inconsistencies, suggesting the damage may have been inflicted from the inside, rather than by an external intruder.
The daycare manager also claimed they had been receiving threatening messages following the journalist’s reporting, painting a picture of intimidation and fear within the community. He expressed exhaustion and sadness over the situation.
The alleged burglary follows a report uncovering a significant amount of questionable activity involving Somali-owned daycares. The investigation revealed at least $110 million in potentially fraudulent claims.
