US Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis informed the brothers that they are being held on a provisional arrest warrant from the UK and that extradition proceedings are already underway. A status hearing has been scheduled for July 27 as the brothers prepare to challenge both the extradition request and their continued detention while the case moves forward.
Attorney Joseph McBride told reporters that the brothers are innocent and do not expect them to be released. McBride described the extradition process as a series of hearings, emphasizing that the brothers will not be required to attend every hearing.
The brothers were arrested in Miami over the weekend on charges that include seven counts of rape, sex trafficking, and indecent images of a child. Tristan Tate faces two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between 2010 and 2017. British police have brought the total number of charges against the brothers to 59, with the new allegations adding to the list of serious crimes they are accused of committing.
The Tate brothers have denied wrongdoing and claimed that all their interactions with women were consensual. However, they face separate criminal proceedings in Romania, where authorities have been investigating them since 2022.
Andrew Tate is also due to face a civil trial in Britain, brought by four women who accuse him of physical and sexual abuse. The four claimants have been granted anonymity and allege that Tate subjected them to physical or sexual violence between 2013 and 2015.
The brothers have built a large online following promoting their views on masculinity and wealth. However, their views on women and relationships have been widely criticized, with Andrew Tate previously describing himself as a misogynist.
