Simpsons SHOCKER: Beloved Star AXED After 3 Decades!

Simpsons SHOCKER: Beloved Star AXED After 3 Decades!

A Springfield icon has officially hung up his cape, marking the end of an era for fans of the long-running animated series. Duffman, the exuberant beer mascot, has been “retired” by the Duff Corporation after nearly three decades of shouting “Oh yeah!” at every opportunity.

The decision came during a recent episode that mirrored the unsettling corporate world depicted in the series *Severance*. Duffman himself delivered the news, appearing in Marge and Homer’s living room to announce his permanent departure from the advertising spotlight. He lamented the changing times, noting that today’s youth can’t even recall the catchy jingles of yesteryear.

First bursting onto the scene in 1997, Duffman – instantly recognizable with his red cape, blonde hair, and a belt brimming with beer cans – quickly became a beloved fixture of the show. Voiced brilliantly by Hank Azaria, the character’s signature catchphrase was a playful nod to advertising techniques popularized after the film *Ferris Bueller’s Day Off*.

Beyond the boisterous persona, there was a surprising depth to Duffman. He’s known to identify as Barry when out of costume, and was revealed to be one of three actors to have donned the Duffman suit. His heritage was also explored in past episodes, revealing a Jewish background adding layers to the seemingly one-dimensional character.

The episode saw Duffman attempting to recruit Homer into a mysterious company before undergoing a strange “deprogramming” process. However, a glimpse of Barry, out of uniform, at the episode’s close hinted at a possible future for the character outside of his beer-fueled obligations, leaving the door slightly ajar for future appearances.

Duffman’s retirement follows closely on the heels of another poignant farewell. Just two months ago, the show bid adieu to Alice Glick, the church organist, after 34 years of faithful service. Her memorial was a touching moment, acknowledging both her lasting musical legacy and the finality of her passing.

Executive producer Tim Long described Alice’s passing as both a celebration of her artistry and a stark reminder of mortality. While acknowledging her death, he emphasized that her music would continue to resonate with viewers for years to come.

These departures mark a shift within the series, acknowledging the passage of time even within the perpetually youthful world of Springfield. The loss of these familiar faces serves as a reminder that even animated icons aren’t immune to the inevitable changes that come with decades on the air.
