A wave of brazen break-ins targeting businesses across Toronto has led to the arrest of five men, bringing a swift end to a troubling spree. The investigation, launched Tuesday by 31 Division Major Crime Unit, focused on a series of meticulously planned intrusions that rattled the city’s commercial districts.
Investigators believe the group specifically sought out businesses housing ATMs, suggesting a calculated effort to access large sums of cash. The break-ins, occurring between Friday and Tuesday, prompted an immediate and intensive response from law enforcement.
The breakthrough came Wednesday with the execution of a search warrant. Inside, authorities recovered two stolen vehicles and, crucially, a stolen ATM – tangible evidence linking the suspects to the crimes. This discovery fueled the rapid identification and apprehension of those involved.
Emerson Valdez, 33, faces the most extensive list of charges, including multiple counts of break-and-enter, possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000, and several breaches of probation orders. He is also accused of possessing tools used in the commission of the crimes.
Nory Jacinto, 54, has been charged with break-and-enter and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The charges reflect his alleged involvement in the targeted ATM thefts.
James Rosario, 27, is accused of possessing stolen property valued over $5,000, indicating a role in handling the illicit gains from the break-ins. His arrest represents a key piece of the puzzle.
Jamie Panaga, 33, faces two counts of possessing stolen property exceeding $5,000, alongside a charge of possessing break-in instruments. This suggests a direct connection to the planning and execution of the crimes.
Jhon Rosario, 28, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, further solidifying the case against the group. Each arrest brings investigators closer to fully understanding the scope of the operation.
Police are continuing to appeal to the public for any information related to these incidents. Anyone with knowledge that could assist the investigation is urged to contact authorities directly or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
