A familiar face is leaving the BBC Breakfast team. After sixteen years with the broadcaster, Ben Boulos announced live on air that today would be his final appearance on the morning news program.
The announcement came during the closing moments of the show, co-hosted with Luxmy Gopal. Boulos, who also presented on Business Live, Talking Business, and World Business Report, shared his decision to pursue a new opportunity.
A wave of emotion washed over the studio as he spoke of his gratitude. He expressed how much he would miss the program and the dedicated teams he worked alongside, extending heartfelt thanks to viewers for welcoming him into their mornings.
Gopal offered a supportive touch, gently stroking Boulos’s shoulder as he continued. He emphasized the privilege of being a part of the BBC Breakfast family, acknowledging the joy it brought him.
This departure marks a significant change after three years as a regular anchor, having initially joined BBC Breakfast in 2022. Boulos hinted at exciting times ahead, confirming he will remain in broadcasting and presenting.
He recently shared a video online, describing the move as a “new challenge” and a “new start” for 2026. He reflected on a “wonderful decade and a half” at the BBC, expressing eagerness to share details of his next venture soon.
The news resonated with his followers, with messages of support flooding in. Many expressed sadness at his departure but wished him well in his future endeavors, praising his contributions to the program.
Several years ago, Boulos made another personal change, adopting his maternal surname, Boulos, professionally. He explained this decision stemmed from a desire to clarify his identity and embrace his Sudanese-Egyptian heritage.
He felt his birth name, Bland, didn’t fully represent who he was, and adopting Boulos allowed him to honor his diverse cultural background and tell a more complete story through his name.
As Boulos embarks on this new chapter, he leaves behind a legacy of dedicated journalism and a warm presence on BBC Breakfast, fondly remembered by colleagues and viewers alike.
