Whispers about Apple’s folding iPhone have been circulating for months, often dismissed as speculation. But a recent surge of detailed leaks from a prominent source suggests the device is rapidly taking shape, and the design choices are… unexpected.
The most striking departure from established iPhone design appears to be the placement of the volume buttons. Instead of the familiar side arrangement, they’re reportedly positioned along the top edge of the right side – a completely new configuration for an Apple phone.
This unusual layout isn’t arbitrary. According to the leak, the core logic board resides entirely within the right half of the device. Apple prioritized minimizing cabling to the left side, dedicating that space primarily to battery and display components.
This internal architecture has a significant benefit: the folding iPhone is projected to boast the largest battery capacity ever seen in an iPhone. A substantial power reserve will be crucial for a device with two displays.
The camera system will be housed within a horizontal “plateau” on the right side, reminiscent of the iPhone X and later models. This section will contain two cameras, an LED flash, and a microphone.
Interestingly, this camera plateau is rumored to be uniformly black, regardless of the iPhone Fold’s overall color. This design element could be a deliberate aesthetic choice, or a practical necessity related to the camera technology.
Currently, only a white color option has been definitively mentioned in the leaks. However, a second color is anticipated for the initial launch, and all signs point to a classic black finish joining the lineup.
