A desperate search is underway in Tucson, Arizona for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s Savannah Guthrie. The search began after she vanished from her home Saturday night, leaving family and authorities deeply concerned for her well-being.
Nancy was last seen at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue. Her children had dropped her off earlier that evening, around 9:45 p.m., unaware that this would be the last time they saw her.
The alarm was raised Sunday morning when Nancy didn’t attend her regular church service. A concerned member of the congregation alerted family, who then searched the home before contacting 911 at noon.
Initial search and rescue efforts were extensive, utilizing helicopters, drones equipped with infrared cameras, and ground teams. The landscape was scoured, but yielded no sign of the missing woman.
As investigators examined Nancy’s home, unsettling evidence emerged, prompting a shift in the investigation. Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that authorities now believe a crime has been committed, stating definitively that Nancy did not leave the house of her own volition.
The search operation has been scaled back to allow teams to rest and refocus, transitioning from a rescue mission to a full-scale crime scene investigation. The focus is now on uncovering what happened within the walls of Nancy Guthrie’s home.
Adding to the urgency, officials emphasized Nancy’s limited mobility and critical need for medication, which must be taken every 24 hours. The delay in receiving this medication poses a serious threat to her health.
Despite her physical challenges, Nancy is described as mentally sharp and alert. Sheriff Nanos stressed the critical need for her safe return, emphasizing that time is of the essence. “We need her back,” he stated, “She needs her meds.”
Anyone with information regarding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is urged to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department. The family and authorities are working tirelessly, hoping for a swift and safe resolution to this increasingly alarming case.
