A brazen robbery in Markham unfolded earlier this month, leaving a young woman shaken and police searching for potential additional victims. The incident began with an online exchange on a popular Chinese social media platform, where the victim connected with a seller offering concert tickets.
Arrangements were made for an in-person transaction at a busy commercial plaza. However, the meeting took a terrifying turn when the seller allegedly brandished a knife, demanding money before speeding away in a white Mercedes-Benz sedan. Police have since charged 19-year-old Pui Hin Lee with robbery.
Investigators believe Lee may have targeted others through similar online schemes and are urging anyone with information, or who believes they may have been a victim, to come forward. The hope is to connect all those affected by this calculated deception.
Meanwhile, in Thunder Bay, a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking culminated in a significant seizure of illicit goods. The Ontario Provincial Police, working with local authorities, executed search warrants that revealed a disturbing cache of illegal items.
Officers discovered a purple firearm, ammunition, and a high-capacity magazine, alongside approximately 460 grams of suspected cocaine. The seizure also included a conducted energy weapon, lavish jewelry valued at $65,000, and nearly $38,000 in cash. The estimated street value of the drugs alone reached $46,000.
Alexandra Mulvee, a Thunder Bay resident, now faces nine charges, including multiple firearm-related offences and possession of property obtained by crime. The investigation highlights the ongoing battle against the flow of illegal drugs and weapons into the community.
York Regional Police in Georgina have also been actively disrupting criminal activity, recovering two firearms and quantities of controlled substances in separate incidents within a week. Proactive patrols led to a traffic stop where officers discovered an open container and, subsequently, a loaded firearm and drugs.
Just days prior, officers responded to a report of an intoxicated individual in a rideshare vehicle, uncovering another loaded firearm and additional controlled substances. The suspect was already under probation orders, adding another layer to the case.
Tragically, a pedestrian lost their life on a Hamilton highway earlier this week. Emergency services responded to a call on the Lincoln M. Alexander Pkwy, but despite their best efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police are appealing to the public for assistance, specifically requesting dashcam footage from motorists who travelled the westbound lanes of the LINC between Upper James St. and Garth St. between 6:45 a.m. and 7 a.m. on the morning of the incident. Any information, no matter how small, could prove crucial to the investigation.
