Hillary Clinton’s recent, hours-long testimony regarding Jeffrey Epstein took an unexpected turn, venturing far beyond questions about the convicted financier himself. The former First Lady and Secretary of State faced a barrage of inquiries that delved into the realm of the bizarre and the deeply unsettling.
During the closed-door session with the House Oversight Committee, Clinton repeatedly stated she had no recollection of ever meeting Epstein. She firmly denied any connection to his activities, stating she never traveled on his plane or visited any of his properties. Her testimony aimed to establish a clear distance from a figure now synonymous with unimaginable abuse.
However, the questioning didn’t remain focused on Epstein. Clinton revealed the hearing became “quite unusual,” as investigators began probing into unsubstantiated claims about UFOs and the infamous Pizzagate conspiracy theory. This baseless theory, which falsely accused Clinton and others of running a child sex trafficking ring from a Washington D.C. pizza restaurant, resurfaced during the proceedings.
Clinton described the experience as requiring “repetitive” denials, stating she “literally over and over again” affirmed she had no knowledge of Epstein. Despite the lengthy and at times surreal questioning, she maintained a calm demeanor as she addressed the committee.
The former Secretary of State also used her testimony to address perceived hypocrisy, accusing the Republican-led panel of attempting to deflect attention from former President Donald Trump’s own connections to Epstein. She pointed to what she described as the dismantling of a government department dedicated to combating international sex trafficking during the Trump administration.
The hearing, held in Chappaqua, New York, where the Clintons reside, lasted seven hours. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, is scheduled to provide his own deposition. The Clintons initially resisted testifying, citing political motivations, but ultimately agreed to cooperate with the committee’s investigation.
Committee Chairman James Comer emphasized that the inquiry wasn’t focused on accusations of wrongdoing against the Clintons themselves. He stated the committee simply sought to gather information and clarify outstanding questions surrounding Epstein’s network and activities.
