AYATOLLAH ELIMINATED: Why the World Just Got SAFER.

The world shifted on its axis this weekend with reports emerging of the death of Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader. While initial denials echoed from Tehran, mounting evidence suggests a seismic change has occurred, potentially reshaping the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.

Khamenei’s reign, spanning over four decades – first as President from 1981-1989, then as Supreme Leader – was marked by a consistent pattern of oppression and brutality. He bore the greatest responsibility for the actions of a regime that systematically silenced dissent and inflicted suffering on its own people and beyond its borders.

The deliberate downing of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 in 2020, claiming the lives of 176 individuals, including dozens of Canadians, stands as a stark example of the regime’s callous disregard for human life. This tragedy, and the subsequent cover-up, falls squarely at Khamenei’s feet.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei casts his ballot during the runoff presidential election in Tehran, July 5, 2024.

The brutal suppression of protests, most recently those sparked by rising food prices, also bears his indelible mark. Reports indicate the regime, under his command, was responsible for the deaths of an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 individuals who dared to voice their discontent.

The case of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who died after being beaten by morality police for allegedly violating hijab rules in 2022, ignited global outrage. Khamenei’s strict enforcement of restrictive social codes directly led to this tragedy, a symbol of the regime’s suffocating control over its citizens.

Under Khamenei, Iran systematically dismantled fundamental freedoms. Freedom of speech was extinguished, religious expression curtailed, and peaceful protests met with violent repression. Women were denied basic rights, their lives dictated by the whims of those in power.

For years, Iran has been a leading instigator of global instability, actively sponsoring terrorism through proxy groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. These groups, armed and funded by Tehran, have spread chaos and violence across the Middle East and beyond.

Terrorist attacks attributed to Iran have reached over 40 countries, from Lebanon and Argentina to Saudi Arabia and Bulgaria. The regime’s condemnation of perceived threats to its own sovereignty rings hollow in light of its decades-long campaign to undermine the sovereignty of other nations.

Iran’s support for Russia’s war in Ukraine further demonstrates its disregard for international law and human decency. The transfer of drone technology to Russia has enabled attacks on civilian infrastructure, exacerbating the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

The news of Khamenei’s demise offers a glimmer of hope for a future free from the tyranny of his regime. It is a moment to envision a new Iran, one where its people can experience genuine freedom, and where peace can finally take root in the region.

This potential shift in power presents an opportunity to address the long-standing issues of regional instability and the threat of nuclear proliferation. A new era for Iran could pave the way for a more peaceful and secure Middle East.
