A young man in his 20s was stabbed and killed in Hackney Downs Park in east London at around 1:45 pm on Monday. Witnesses described the victim as a calm, family‑oriented individual who worked nights. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police cordoned off the area and forensic teams collected evidence while detectives reviewed CCTV footage from surrounding streets. No arrests have been made, and investigators are urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
The attack occurred near Mossbourne Community Academy and the Stormont School for special needs, both of which are within walking distance of the park. Parents of students expressed shock and concern, noting that the park is a regular route for pupils after school.

One parent said, “It’s heartbreaking that someone has died and it’s very worrying for us. We have been told there has been no one arrested, so the killer is still out there.” Another added that the hot weather has made the park feel more intimidating, with larger groups of young men present.
School staff reported that the incident was not known to them until the end of the day, as the school was closed for summer holidays. They emphasized that no students were present at the time of the attack.
Police officers remain on duty overnight to continue the investigation and to reassure the community. The incident is being treated as isolated and does not involve any pupils.

Residents and visitors who witnessed the event described the scene as shocking and unsettling. A dog walker recalled that the park was full of families and joggers when the attack occurred, and that police had to shepherd people away.
Authorities have asked anyone with information to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
