Darline Graham Mulls Full Senate Term Bid, Eyes Leadership Role

Darline Graham has signaled an interest in pursuing a full Senate term after being appointed to complete her late brother’s tenure.

She was selected by the state governor to fill the remainder of the seat and was sworn in on Tuesday.

The special primary filing window opens on July 21 and closes on July 28, with the primary scheduled for August 11.

Other prominent figures—including Representatives Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette—are also contemplating campaigns.

A tribute to the former senator will be held on July 28 in Washington, D.C., followed by ceremonies on July 29 in Columbia and Pickens County.

Graham, the first woman elected to the state’s Senate and the first sister appointed to the chamber, praised her brother’s leadership during her appointment ceremony.

She is expected to serve as a caretaker until the new term begins in January.

The former senator passed away on Saturday at the age of 71.

Preliminary findings from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease as the cause of death.
